we meet on the 1st Sunday of each month to have fun performing all types of music. Sometimes it might be country/ folky stuff, other times it might be Jazz, New Wave, Indie, Italian Accordian music or even Honky Tonk Piano - so don't turn up with any expectations, other than to be entertained and have fun. If you like listening to live music or if you're a new or experienced performer looking for chance to shine... then come along and join in... you'll be most welcome. There is no charge whatsoever. Send us your e-mail address and we'll keep you updated.

Next Music Club is Sunday the 6th June 7.30pm

Featuring the DK Band from Swafham. Maybe also our fantastic Flamenco guitarist, Shahram from Buxton. ... and anyone else who turns up.

It's getting better every time - so it should be a lot fun.

Also note - the New Inn at Horning are having an open mic night every Tuesday evening, 8.30pm

February's Event a Great Success

Thanks to everyone that came over to the Black Lion to sing and watch on Sunday. It was a great night with several amazing debut performance.

Steve Clarke on slide guitar ! Steve normally plays drums with local band The Proposition, but has recently built and learnt to play the steel guitar. We played an Eagles track and a Dixie Trick track with the girls from Big Sister - the Black Lion has never sounded so 'southern'.

Jason (Lefty) got up and sang a Squeeze song and several more, and then came Heather from nowhere to play fretless bass whilst John Walker performed several great James Taylor tracks. Chris Porter on drums. It was a class act.

Simon Middleton (also from The Proposition) gave a stunning solo performance of several self penned songs and a great rendition of tracks of my tears.

The Big Sister girls then sang several country style songs with their gorgeous harmonies, including 'The Guy Work Down the Chip Shop'. The evening finished with a rowdy Irish set from Irish Rick, with Heather on bass, Chris on drums, Richard (Hard Rain) on Rhythm and Simon on backing vocals. Several classics e.g Irish Rover, Black Velvet Band etc.

Thanks for a great night - it was good to see the pub so busy on such a cold Feb Sunday evening.

Irish and Folk Evening - A lot of Talent and A Lot of Fun

Thanks to everyone that came along and supported the September music club. Once again it was a remarkable evening of talent. With a theme of 'Folk and Irish' we enjoyed an ecclectic mix of unplugged music ranging from Anoosh and Sharam's stunning Flamenco guitar to Simon Middletons entertaining but dark and tragic folk songs of days gone by. Other performances included upbeat (and happier) Irish classics such as the 'Wild Rover', 'Carifergus', 'Fisherman's Blues' and 'The Leaving of Liverpool' from Sean Chambers and Irish Rick. Indeed, they even played the 'dueling banjo's' on request. Of course, Terry came along and did his regular comedy sketch and a lot of fun was had by all. It's amazing how much fun can be had without an electric guitar in sight.

The July music club
was a brilliant evening, so thanks to all that came along and performed and to all who came along to listen and support it. Lena Black and her band were breath taking, from the very first chord. Playing Jazz and Blues from the 20's, 30's and 40's - it was like being taken back in time and the pub had a fantastic ambience. Everyone was captivated - the songs were lyrically captivating and the backing was played with great expression.

Also on the bill that evening was "TDEA 2" from Upton, an acoustic guitar duo. Another great act, with a great choice of songs ranging from Travis to U2, from Dylan to a final Hey Jude by the Beatles.

Hard Rain opened the evening with a mix of Jazz and blues classics such as Mustang Sally, Fog Town and Heard it On the Grapevine. And finally, Terry got up and told some jokes in his unique style.

Need a local "Rehearsal Room" - check out "Crosswinds Barn" at Marsham, offering a stage and lights.

Thanks to everyone that came along for the June Music Club. It was a great night and a lot of fun. It was an indulgent evening of Bob Dylan covers from Sean Chambers, Norrie Parmar and One Hand Clapping. Everything from 'Blowing in the Wind' to 'All Along the Watchtower'.

The evening was punctuate by Andy from Astal Void giving an amazing performance of some modern new wave classics - which was so good, even a Dylan audience was left in awe! Thanks Andy, and thanks to all the other artists.

Also thanks to the local backing musicians who turned up - Chris Porter (drums), Malcolm Jackson (bass) and John Hurn (Sax and Harmonica).
